Underwriters and claims adjusters spend much of their day working through rules, policy guidelines and internal documents, according to Gore Mutual and Guidewire. The rule they need might sit in one system, the guideline in another and the latest update in a shared drive.

Gore Mutual Insurance wants its people to stop searching. On 2 November 2026, the Canadian insurer and Guidewire announced that Gore Mutual has deployed Guidewire ProNavigator across its claims and personal lines underwriting operations. Guidewire's core systems are used by more than 570 insurers in 44 countries.

The Gore Mutual Guidewire ProNavigator rollout puts the assistant inside the insurer's core policy and claims applications. Staff get underwriting rules, policy guidelines and internal documentation as a direct answer, without leaving the screen they are working on.

The same problem exists in claims and underwriting teams at Indian insurers, which are under growing pressure to put AI to practical use. That makes a modest rollout like this one worth a closer look.

An Assistant That Finds, Not One That Decides

Guidewire calls ProNavigator its embedded AI assistant for insurance expertise, and its job is a narrow one. When a question comes up mid-task, it surfaces the relevant internal answer at that moment.

The announcement describes knowledge support for employees, and that limit matters. It says nothing about the assistant approving claims or binding policies on its own. The release talks about helping teams make faster, better-informed decisions, with the assistant supplying the information.

Guidewire ProNavigator provides relevant insurance guidance inside existing claims and underwriting workflows while employees retain decision-making responsibility.

An illustration, not taken from Gore Mutual: an adjuster working on a water-damage claim might ask whether gradual seepage is covered and which documents are needed before payment. Instead of opening a manual or a shared folder, the adjuster would see the relevant guideline and checklist next to the claim file.

ProNavigator began life outside Guidewire, launching as a chatbot in 2016 and releasing its knowledge management platform for property and casualty insurers in 2019. Guidewire agreed to buy the business, formally ProNav Technologies, at its Connections conference in October 2025.

At that point, 34 insurance organisations used the platform, 12 of them already Guidewire customers. Joseph D'Souza, ProNavigator's former chief executive, now runs it inside Guidewire as general manager.

What Gore Mutual Expects

Suzanne Courtlander, Gore Mutual's chief claims officer, said the aim is "making sure our people have the right information at the right time." The insurer expects more consistent policy and claims decisions from a single source of truth, more cases resolved per day as volumes rise, and closer adherence to its own guidelines.

Three expected benefits of Gore Mutual’s ProNavigator rollout: consistent decisions, greater case capacity and stronger adherence to internal procedures
Gore Mutual expects more consistent decisions, greater case-handling capacity and improved guideline adherence; no measured results have been published.

What the Announcement Doesn't Show

There are no numbers. The release gives no figures for time saved, cases handled per day or changes in decision accuracy. It also doesn't say how many employees use the tool or when it went live.

That is common in deployment announcements, and independent coverage has made the same point. For now, the business case rests on the companies' description rather than published results.

Guidewire's own awards hint at where the real work went. It named Lindsay Harman, Gore Mutual's manager of learning, development and change management, one of its 2026 All-Stars for leading the rollout. She coordinated work across IT, security, risk and operations, and Guidewire credits her change management plan with driving fast adoption.

That is easy to miss. With AI-powered insurance operations, the hard part is often getting busy people to trust and use a new tool in the middle of their working day.

Why the Timing Is Interesting

Gore Mutual is in the middle of a merger year. It joined Beneva, Canada's largest mutual insurer, on 1 January 2026, and during 2026 it is combining operations with Unica Insurance, Beneva's Ontario-based subsidiary.

In our reading, that makes a single source of truth especially useful. When two insurers combine, their underwriting rules and claims procedures have to converge. A tool that puts the current rulebook in front of every adjuster is one way to keep decisions consistent while that happens.

It also fits Gore Mutual's history with Guidewire. The insurer was the first in Canada to launch Guidewire's InsuranceSuite in the cloud across policy, billing and claims at the same time.

The Read for Indian Insurers

Much of the talk about AI in insurance underwriting is about pricing models and risk scores. Gore Mutual's rollout is a reminder that some of the quickest gains are more ordinary, such as helping staff find the right rule faster.

The same holds for AI in insurance claims processing, and the pressure to act is already here. The government has asked India's state-run general insurers to adopt AI tools and digital inspections against fraudulent claims as part of the turnaround plans they must now file.

Investors are backing claims technology too. In the US, a GTCR-led group has agreed a $6.1 billion buyout of claims software provider CCC Intelligent Solutions. Our conversation with Pranshu Diwan on why AI's biggest wins are in distribution and claims makes the case from inside the industry.

"Most of the time an underwriter loses isn't spent deciding. It's spent finding. Putting the rulebook inside the policy and claims screens is unglamorous AI. But it's the kind Indian insurers could adopt fastest, because it improves consistency without taking the decision away from the person accountable for it," said Hitul Mistry, founder of Insurnest.

Whether it pays off at Gore Mutual will show up in numbers it hasn't shared yet: cases closed per day, and how often two adjusters reach the same answer.
